As many cool things in my life, this little experiment started completely spontaneously. I bought a landscape material for Unreal Engine 4 called brushify (link here) and just wanted to test it. After playing with that for about an hour I started to sculpt a terrain in UE4 to see how the material is going to hold on a bigger scale. Well by sculpting landscape the idea about doing some kind of apocalyptic scene emerged by itself. hence I brought into the scene free assets found in Unreal Engine Marketplace and on the web.. The only thing I bought besides brushify was Kitbash 3D Brutalist set (those big weird looking buildings), which I highly recommend (link here). After finishing the scene I tried some free songs from youtube sound library, but nothing really fitted that ghastly atmosphere I was aiming for, so I sat down and composed the soundtrack myself. Here I used Ableton Live as DAW and Native Instruments Complete library. Compositing and post done in Davinci Resolve. Total time from start to finish: about 4 days a 8 hours. What can I say: I love this game engine.
